My 2011 christmas message

ABS-CBN and TV5 wins at the 16th Asian TV Awards
From 7 nominations garnered by the Philippines from the 16th Asian Television Awards, ABS-CBN and TV5 won 1 trophy each.
The two awards won by the Philippines from the recently-concluded Asian Television Awards came from the Kapamilya and the Kapatid Network.
ABS-CBN’s weekly talk show “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” took home the trophy for Best Talk Show. It bested “Bola @ Mamak” from Malaysia, “The Euthanasia Debate” from India, “It’s A Small World 2″ from Singapore, CNN’s “Talk Asia” from Hong Kong and “Being Gay: The Parents’ Story” from India.
TV5, on the other hand, won the technical award for Best Theme Song courtesy of Boy Christopher Ramos‘ “Ito Ang Buhay ko” for the drama antology Star Confessions. It bested 3 nominees from Malaysia and 1 from Singapore.
Here are the other nominations garnered by the Philippines for this year’s Asian Television Award but failed to win:
Best General Entertainment:
Talentadong Pinoy (TV5)
Best Comedy Programme:
Lokomoko (TV5)
Best Supporting Actress:
Angel Aquino for “Magkaribal” (ABS-CBN)
Best General Entertainment:

Best Comedy Performance by an Actor:

Last year, the Philippine contingent went home empty handed despite its 7 nominations. This year, we got 7 nominations and two of them emerged as winners.

Antipolo Bans Styrofoam and Plastic Bags
ANTIPOLO CITY, Philippines — Business establishments are now required to adhere to the local government’s policy on the ban on the use of Styrofoam as packaging and the regulation on the use of plastic bags in this city.
This came as the two-year moratorium on City Ordinance 2009-370, which prohibits the use of plastic bags on dry goods and regulates its utilization on wet goods and prohibits the use of Styrofoam in the city, ended on Nov. 3, 2011.
Based on the ordinance, which has been disseminated to the public through the city’s Public Information Office, the use and storage of Styrofoam as containers for food, produce and other products shall now be illegal.
It is now also prohibited to use plastic bags on dry goods as primary packaging materials. However, on wet goods, business establishments shall only use plastic bags as primary packaging materials only.
Options for the business establishments include the use of environment-friendly packaging materials or biodegradable alternatives that include reusable materials, and paper bags, bayong, cloth bags, newspapers, used papers and many others.
The presence in the commercial establishment of significant quantity of non-environmentally acceptable packaging like Styrofoam and plastic bags shall constitute a rebuttable presumption of intent to sell or convey the same to customers.
The office of Mayor Danilo Leyble has yet to issue an update on the implementation of the ordinance as of Monday.
Penalties for the violators range from P500 or community service for not less than 6 hours for the first offense to P5,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months and for business establishments, the cancellation of their license to operate for one year for the fourth offense.
It was learned that major business establishments including SM Masinag, Shopwise, National Bookstore and Budget Lane Super Palengke have started using biodegradable packaging containers even prior to the start of the implementation of the environment-friendly ordinance.
The city’s mobile public address system has been making the rounds of the city as part of the city government’s information campaign on the ban on plastic bags and “styro” containers here.

Bishop targets "foul-mouthed" DJs of FM radio stations, urges KBP to punish them
Inquirer.net reports that Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes is urging the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) to go after "disc jockeys of some FM radio stations who use foul language on air and discipline them." Though Bastes did not name the DJs, he seemed particularly incensed by "those who run late-night radio programs."
In a segment broadcast over the Church-run Radio Veritas, Bastes said, "Some of the DJs, especially in midnight programs, are using indecent and vulgar language, which is not good since we are a Christian country." He went on to say that "listening to FM radio stations supposedly for relaxation and entertainment was no longer a joyful experience since radio personalities engage in talks with 'double meaning' or sexual innuendos."
Bastes said he found the DJs' behavior shameful and stressed that they must instead "use good words on air to help boost the character and morality of Filipinos. The KBP should really monitor and punish these DJs who use filthy language."

My message on Easter Sunday
Kasama ako, tatay, nanay, ate, kuya, lolo, lola, tito, tita, lahat tayo may sariling tahanan.

GMA Hits WV and Southern Mindanao
The Kapuso network brought its A-listers to the regions to take part in the activities lined up for the celebration of various festivals. These include the Paraw Regatta, Bago City Charter Day, Bayawan City, and the Kalilangan 2011 held in Iloilo City, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and General Santos City, respectively.
In Iloilo City, the Kapuso Night celebration for the colorful Paraw Regatta was held at the Villa Beach. A crowd of 15,000 people partied with Party Pilipinas’ resident Bad Boy on the Dance Floor Mark Herras; one of Bubble Gang’s resident hunk, Wendell Ramos; and one of the leading ladies in the upcoming soap My Lover, My Wife, Nadine Samonte.
At Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, the stars of primetime fantaserye Dwarfina and Party Pilipinas joined forces for the Tawo-Tawo Festival.
The GMA contingent composed of Will Devaughn, Vaness del Moral, Angelika Dela Cruz, and Mico Aytona participated in the Kapuso Street Dancing and Float Parade and the Kapuso Night at the Bayawan Integrated Center.
The line-up was further beefed up with the presence of Party Pilipinas’ Iza Calzado and Rochelle Pangilinan, together with Bubble Gang’s Maureen Larrazabal. More than 10,000 people flocked to the venue.
“All of our hard work and preparations paid off. Seeing this huge turnout is enough reward for all of our effort,” commented Jocelyn Bautista, Program Manager for Entertainment TV-Regional.
Meanwhile, in Bago City’s Charter Day celebration, the stars of Pablo S. Gomez’s Machete took centerstage, from comedienne Chariz Solomon to female leads Ryza Cenon and Bela Padilla.
When Machete himself finally appeared onstage, screams and shrills filled the air. Aljur also took a lady from the audience to join him onstage.
Local Kapuso personalities John Arceo and Ana Maris Igpit hosted the show, while Adrian Bobe facilitated the on-ground games which were held before the main show.
Kabalikat Civicom Group estimated that the crowd numbered to 15,000 to 20,000.
After Visayas, the Kapuso contingent flew to the country’s tuna capital – General Santos City, for the Kalilangan Festival. Kapuso stars led by Mark Anthony Fernandez, Katrina Halili, Maureen Larrazabal, and Will Devaughn starred in the Kapuso Night held at the convention center of the KCC Mall of Gensan.
Mark Anthony and Katrina both came off from the rousing success of their respective teleserye – Little Star and Beauty Queen, respectively.
Prior to the main show, the crowd – estimated to be at 4,500 – was treated to an episode marathon of the newest Kapuso show Nita Negrita. They also readily participated in the games prepared for them and was facilitated by Starstruck alumnus Chuck Allie and local personality Resci Rizada.
Bautista said, “All of these efforts are part of the network’s commitment of bringing superior entertainment to our Kapuso in the regions.”
Apart from its participation in the festivals, mall shows featuring the various programs and shows of GMA Network and its personalities will unfurl in key cities and various points in the country.
“The Network’s rollout of exciting activities and star-studded events for this year is surely something that our Kapusos from all over the regions can expect. We also expect more first-time partnerships with LGUs just like the recently concluded Tawo-Tawo Festival,” said Oliver Amoroso, assistant vice president for Regional Marketing and Sales.

Willing Willie live in Davao today
Ecoland, Barangay 76-A, Talomo District Davao City this coming February 26, 2011.
Willing Willie Live in Davao City this coming February 26, 2011. See you there mga Kapatid!

International Mother Language Day
To promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism, International Mother Language Day is observed annually on February 21 worldwide, as proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This year, the observance focuses on the information and communcation technologies for the safeguarding and promotion of languages and linguistic diversity.
Languages are important tools for identity, communication, social integration, education, and development for humans. But as globalization increases, they are also increasingly under threat. People find it easier to communicate with widely used languages and children are no longer educated in languages spoken by a limited number of people. As fewer people use local languages, they gradually die out. When languages fade, so does the world’s rich tapestry of cultural diversity. Opportunities, transactions, memory, unique modes of thinking and expression – valuable resources for ensuring a better future – are also lost.
More than 50 percent of the approximately 7,000 languages spoken in the world are likely to die out within a few generations, and 96 percent of these languages are spoken by a mere 4 percent of the world’s population.
Languages play a vital role in development, in ensuring cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, in strengthening cooperation and attaining quality education for all, in building inclusive knowledge societies and preserving cultural heritage, and in mobilizing political will for applying the benefits of science and technology to sustainable development.
Languages are the most powerful tools for the preservation and development of tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education. They develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and they inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance, and dialogue.

Barangay LS FM TugsTugan Na! launching today
Barangay LS 97.1, GMA network’s flagship FM station reinvents on-air programing with a new catch phrase — TugStugan Na! The new branding of Barangay LS will have its corresponding visual peg to be launched formally today in Party Pilipinas.
The TV commercial features Kapuso stars Jake Vargas, Sam Pinto, Gwen Zamora and Pekto. They are joined by DJs Papa Jepoy, Papa Bodjie, Papa Dudut, Ate Liza, Papa Tolits, Mama Belle, Papa Baldo, Papa Kiko, Papa Bear, Papa Dan, Mama Cy and Chikotita.
According to program director Glenn Allona, Barangay LS bears the distinction of having successfully established the “crazy fun” sound brand in the market through programs like Talk To Papa and Wanted Sweetheart, among others. “With TugStugan Na!, we aim to bring back the focus on the staple of FM programming which is music. We need to balance, if not underscore, the vibrance of comedy-talk programming with a pleasant and highly-entertaining all-hits music format,” Allona shared.
“The new TugStugan Na! theme for LS is also a very positive call-out for the listening public as it encourages them to tune to more positive vibes,” added project manager Margaret Gil.
Barangay LS 97.1 offers clean fun and free on-air music. It can also play Cupid or love breaker, a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on, an instant friend with a ready line-up of only the most popular songs in the land.
