MANILA, Philippines -- The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has ordered the immediate suspension of operations of three bus companies allegedly involved in a pre-dawn accident in EDSA Tuesday that left a doctor dead and three others injured.
In a statement, chairman Thompson Lantion has suspended for 30 days Joanna Jesh Bus, Amtrak Transport, Inc., and Commuters Bus Corporation effective Tuesday. The three were involved in a traffic accident in EDSA Santolan northbound lane Tuesday.
Initial reports said that the Joanna Jesh Bus with plate number TYG-660 rammed into a Mercedes Benz that had caught fire and trapped owner Dr. Francisco Sarabia, which caused his death.
But also allegedly involved were the Amtrak Bus with plate number TYF-868 and Commuters Bus with plate number TXE-812 that were believed to be racing along EDSA before the accident.
At the same time, Lantion also ordered the LTFRB legal division to investigate the incident and require the owners of the bus companies to submit their corresponding reports on the incident.
Lantion said the Joanna Jesh Bus and Amtrak Transport were operated by a certain Cris Mahilac.
“ [We have to know what really happened],” he added.
Lantion also ordered the insurance companies of these bus companies to pay the corresponding benefits and other expenses of the victims
