PGMA gives 13 out of 17 CineManila awards to Filipinos
Manila (21 October) -- World-class Filipino talent took center stage once again after film entries, directors and actors mostly from the Philippines bagged nearly all of the awards in the recently-concluded CineManila International Film Festival (CIFF) held in MalacaƱang.

Filipino thespic and directorial talent outshone all other entries from various countries and cornered 13 out of 17 awards of the CIIF.

Now on its 10th year, the CIFF, which is the country's premier international film festival, pays tribute to excellent filmmakers, actors and their products in the Philippines and the world.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo personally handed out the awards to the winners who participated in the following categories of the CIFF: main, Southeast Asian, local digital, Young Cinema and documentary.

Joining the President in handing out the awards were CineManila Festival director Amable "Tikoy" Aguiluz, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) chairperson and Department of Education undersecretary Vilma Labrador, and NCCA executive director Cecile Guidote Alvarez.

Among the awards Filipinos took home are:


Young Cinema

"Marlon" by Ralson Jover and James Amparo as Best Documentary,
"Tumbang Preso" by Antoinette Jadaone as Best Short Film,
"Sureal Ramdom Text Messages" by Christopher Gozum - Ishmael Bernal Award

Southeast Asia Film Competition

"Frou Frou…Shhh, Huwag Mong Sabihin kay Itay" by Michael Juat as Best Southeast Asian Short Film
"Confessional" by Jerrold Tarog and Ruel Dahis Antipuesto as Best SEA Film,
Anita Linda - Best Actress for "Adela."

Digital Lokal

Lino Brocka Grand Prize to Sherad Anthony Sanchez for his film "Imburnal,"
Lino Brocka Grand Jury Prize to Raya Martin for "Next Attraction,"
Best Actor - Carlo Aquino for "Carnivore,"
Best Actress - Jodi Sta. Maria for "Sisa,"
Best Director - Ato Bautista for "Carnivore."

International Competition

Vic Silayan Award for Best Actress - Angeli Bayani for "Melacholia"

United Nations Millennium Development Goals Prize
