The campaign period is already over. The plebiscite is also over and it was a landslide victory for Tacloban. Mark December 18, 2008 on your calendars for its independence day for all Taclobanons. The sovereign Taclobanons have spoken and its official, nobody can argue with it.
Out of 57,771 people who voted on the plebiscite over 36,352 favored the reclassification while only 21,419 disagreed. The turn out of the over all voters went to 56%, currently the highest compared in Puerto Princesa.
Tacloban is the 1st Highly Urbanized City in Eastern Visayas and the 34th in the country. Now the whole nation or even the whole world could recognize Tacloban’s potential to be a metropolis in the future. After 55 years of being a component-dependent city of Leyte its about time we face independence and learn to run our own city.We should be ready for we’ll be experiencing a change in governance. Tacloban will stand on its own feet now with out asking any help from its mother-province, Leyte, and trying to learn to be independent.
Whether you voted Yes or you voted No the plebiscite is now over and its time to be united. Let’s support the decision of the majority. Its time to start all over again for the future of our children. For a better tomorrow let’s be united. Its Christmas and lets enjoy the surprises of HUC.
The future of Tacloban is in our hands now. We should learn to face reality and be more responsible. To all Taclobanons congratulations and good luck! God Bless!
